We have been trying to get to Mars for decades, and throughout the entire time, we have always thought that it was just another decade out. After we decided to go to the moon, it didn't even take 11 years to get to the moon. However, we have been trying to get to Mars since the 70s, and yet we haven't made much tangible progress in actually colonizing the red planet. This can be attributed to a wide array of various logistical, psychological, and technological concerns. But, over the past 20 years, SpaceX whose funding is just a tenth of Nasa's funding has been making decent progress towards reaching Mars. So, why is it taking Nasa so long to get to Mars?
