Having spent a lot of time in the Taipei MRT I always been curious about its history - how it was built, created, and how it runs. I did some reading and here is what I learned.
Edit: made an error about the New York Transit system - it wasn't government funded at the start. Misread a secondary source and didn't double check. My bad.
