Time Team Teatime - Session 28
Wrapping up Black History Month and our exploration of North America's early European colonies, we're staying in St Mary's City for a second week. We're joined again by Time Team's landscape investigator, Stewart Ainsworth. As always, Stewart brings his steadfast commitment to fact finding and unique sense of the bigger picture to proceedings.
We shed light on the latest archaeological developments in St Mary's City, including the various forts that have occupied the area and some of the more uncomfortable truths about colonialism. Acknowledging the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower's crossing, Tim and Stewart also discuss the push and pull factors of early emigrants from Britain, as well as the English regional origins of some of the so-called 'Pilgrims'.
