In several recent commentaries, John Gater has showcased the value of geophysics in archaeology with some incredible results. On this occasion, he looks (with slightly less enthusiasm) at an example in which geophys wasn't quite so helpful.
His survey produced some stunning results, although they weren't necessarily archaeological... Nevertheless, John is on his usual top form and it’s fair to say things get a little spirited.
